The New Year has started with gusto today. I’ve had more scam lottery wins, inheritances, business proposals and bank scams than on any day since I started this blog (and its sister). I’ve split them between the two blogs and this is still my sixth post here for today. Slow down guys, I can’t keep up!

SSG Dewayne Pittman is, allegedly, a soldier on active service in Iraq. He has, he tells me, “managed to secure funds from the war zone”. He doesn’t say how. You don’t suppose he’s been embezzling funds from the very people he was sent to protect, do you? He hasn’t - simply because he doesn’t exist. At least, not as a soldier serving in Iraq - or anywhere else. He’s a scammer and his email was sent from Africa. He doesn’t want to send you money, he wants to get his hands on yours. He wants to charge you lots of fees for access to his non existent funds.

Just delete the email and don’t reply.

I am SSG Dewayne Pittman, an active American soldier serving in Iraq, I am serving in the military of the 1st Armored Division in Iraq, as our mission here is highly exclusive due to insurgents everyday and car bombs are attacking our peaceful mission here. We managed to secure funds from the war zone. The total amount is US$ 9 Million dollars in cash. We want to move this money out of this place, this place is a war zone, so that you may keep our share for us till when we will come over to meet you.We will take 70%, my partner and I.You take 30%. No strings attached, just help us move it out of Iraq, Iraq is a war zone. We plan on using diplomatic courier and shipping the money out in a large box, using diplomatic immunity. If you are interested I will send you the full details, my job is to find a good partner that we can trust and that will assist us. Can I trust you? When you receive this letter, kindly send me an e-mail signifying your interest including your most confidential telephone/fax numbers for quick communication also your contact details. This business is risk free. The box can be shipped out in 48hrs if you want to handle the deal with us as brothers. Respectfully, SSG Dewayne Pittman

I’m sure it will come as no surprise to you to hear that her father died in a tragic accident which, in turn, caused the death of her sick mother. All together now - aahhhhh.

If you really believe Miss Smith wants to give you 20 million quid then you really haven’t been paying attention to this blog, have you!!!

She’s a scammer. She doesn’t want to give you money - she wants to take money from you.

Just delete the email and don’t reply.

Dear Sir/madam

My names are Grace Sarah Smith; I am 24 years old, from London - England, where I school and work as a fashion designer after school. I am the only daughter of my parents, I lost my father in a fatal auto accident on his way tosee my sick mother at the hospital where she was admitted for breast cancer treatment, she passed on when she heard about the sudden death of my father in a car accident.

FUTHERMORE, before the demise of my father he willed his Real Estate Business & Gas Stations together with a total sum of 50,700,000.00 (Fifty Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Pounds Sterling) to me.

since the death of my parents particularly my father, i have been having a tough time trying to meet up with my daily and acdemic endavours. So, I went to the bank where my late father deposited the funds on my behalf to with-draw some money to take care of myself, pay my school fees and other bills I needed to settled since after the death of my parents.

I was shocked when the Bank Management explained to me that I will not be able to with-draw from the deposited money, because my father had put a clause on theWill and the form he filled while depositing the fund with them, saying that before I will be given access to the money, I will either have to be 30 years before I will be given access to the money,or if only I get married before the age of 30,in which case my husband will be eligible to collect the money on my behalf by standing in as my husband ,or if i can get a man or woman of good conduct as a next of kin to claim the deposited funds on my behalf . Today I am only 24 years old. And I have no access to the money till I’m 30 years. So, I?m contacting you to stand in as my husband or as the next of kin to claim this fund on my behalf .

So please get back to me as regards to the above transaction as I am willing to offer you with 40% of the total sum 50,700,000.00 (Fifty Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Pounds Sterling),while 10 % will be mapped out for any expenses that we’re to use to receive the money from the deposited Bank.

Please remember that I am writing you this email purely on the ground of trust so we can achieve this deal together. This transaction will last for two weeks after you gotten back to me on how serious you are to claim these funds on my behalf.

Yours Truly,
Grace Sarah Smith

What a load of mixed up twaddle. This must win some kind of prize for sheer length. One thing is certain - I haven’t won anything - and neither have you. Usually these are advance fee frauds - the scammer asks you to pay fees for a payment that doesn’t exist. But I have a feeling there could be more to this. They say that 10% will be paid to their promotions company AFTER they have paid you. I have a horrible feeling that anyone who falls for this scam could find $1m dollars (apparently) deposited in their account. The victim could then pay the 10% or $100k to the scammers - only to find that the original deposit has been found by the bank to be fraudulent. The victim will then be $100k short - having paid the money to the scammers.

A variation on a theme here. Today it’s the Paypal bank who want their “esteemed customers” to update (as in give the scammers) their information. It claims to have been sent to “all” Paypal bank customers. Odd then that I don’t have a PayPal bank account. As ever, it’s a fake. If I point my mouse at one of the links in the email and DON’T CLICK - this is the address that is displayed at the bottom left of my browser:

Not the address of the PayPal bank.

NEVER click on a link in a bank email, even if it does seem to come from your bank. ALWAYS enter the address of your bank directly into your browser. NEVER reconfirm any of your details online.

If you think there is a problem with your online bank account, phone your bank or go into your local branch.

The email claims to come from “Song Lile” (a well established scam) but is sent from “shaunamary@eircom.net”. Ok, so “shauna mary” from Ireland has assumed a Chinese name. But wait - she claims to be writing as “Mrs Corrie Miller” from the Netherlands. I think you’re getting a bit mixed up love, perhaps you should go and lie down in a darkened room for a while.

Meanwhile the rest of us will delete your email and not reply as you’re obviously a scammer - and a mixed up one at that.
